IEC registers 3 more political parties ahead of December polls

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has registered three more political parties ahead of the December 5 presidential election.  The three newly registered parties are the National Builders Party (NBP), The Gambia Labour Party (GLP), and The National Democratic Party (NDP). The Gambia has not got a total of 27 political parties aiming to contest in the December 2026 presidential race. The new party registrations were done following the fulfilment of the requirements for registration as political parties under section 106 of the Elections Act 2025.

The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, has urged African tax administrations to strengthen regional cooperation and policy coherence in order to safeguard the continent’s tax base and finance sustainable development. He made the remarks at the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) Annual General Meeting and High-Level Policy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana.

Specialised GBV court set to speed up justice for survivors

The government has completed the construction of a specialised Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Court, with authorities saying the new court is intended to address delays in proceedings and ensure survivors receive justice without being discouraged from pursuing their cases. The development was announced during the Mansa Kunda ministerial engagement featuring the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Fatou Kinteh where she outlined measures being taken to strengthen protection for women, girls and children.
