The Point Newspaper is an independent daily newspaper in The Gambia that promotes divergent views, and issues on democracy and human rights.
The Point as indicated by RSF report on the 3rd May 2022 is the leading paper in the Gambia because of its objective reporting.
By virtue of its editorial stands the paper is viewed as the most read, most circulated and most popular independent paper in The Gambia.

The Point was established on 16th December 1991, with publications on every Monday for the first two years of its existence, after which it started publications on Mondays and Thursdays as well.
In 1995, the Paper began a three-day publications: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Management again decided in 2001 to increase publications to four times a week thus Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The Paper started daily publications in 2006 due to the hard work and resilience of the dedicated staff and Management.
The Paper enjoys the moral and technical supports of the US Embassy, British High Commission, the French Embassy and a number of other international bodies and institutions.
The Paper serves as an alternative source of quality information and gives all Gambians the opportunity to have their views heard.
The Paper celebrated several anniversaries as the years passed, but the 13th anniversary celebrations ended with profound sorrow as the co-founder and editor at the time Mr. Deyda Hydara was murdered that night.
Mr. Hydara was known as a champion of Human rights and social justice.
Nonetheless, the paper continued its publication despite intimidations and rampant arrests of journalists by the then Yaya Jammeh regime.
Generally, the Paper focuses on developmental and human rights matters, civic issues such as education, health, women issues, youth matters, agriculture, sports, Entertainment and politics etc as well as world affairs..
The Point Newspaper has contributed a lot in terms of Press Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights, child rights and gender equality promotion in The Gambia and beyond just to mention a few.
In December 2006 in Germany, the paper won an International Press Freedom Award (John Philip Palm), which was received by Mr. Pap Saine the co-publisher of the Paper in Germany.
Mr. Pap Saine, Co-founder of the paper was awarded the World Press Freedom Hero award in Vienne Australia in 2010 by the International Press Institute (IPI). Mr. Saine was also awarded a press freedom award in South Africa and also in Zamiba, another press freedom was awarded to Pap Saine by Post Newspaper, the largest paper in lusaka the same year.
The Paper has a wide circulation of about 3,500 printed copies daily and about over a million online readers worldwide.
