About Us

The triumvirate - Late Babucarr Gaye, Late Deyda Hydara and Pap Saine established The Point Newspaper on 16 December 1991. Mr Gaye quit after four months.

Initially the Point was bi-weekly Newspaper published on Mondays and Thursdays. In 1995, due to increase in readership of the Paper, the publishers decided to increase publication by additional issue. There was Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays publication.
This production programme remained uninterrupted until 2001 when production was again increased to four issues weekly, notably Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Since early 2006, the paper has gone daily.

One of the founding members, Mr Deyda Hydara, was assassinated on 16 December 2004, on the night of The Point's 13th anniversary.
He has been replaced in the paper's management team by his wife, Mrs Maria Hydara.
