Doing Music in The Gambia on a Low Budget

For many young people in The Gambia, music is far more than just entertainment; it is a dream, a voice, and a potential path toward a better future. It is a medium to speak on life, struggle, love, and the societal experiences that define us. Across our towns and villages, there are countless talented youths writing lyrics and recording freestyles, searching for that one opportunity to be heard. However, the reality of the industry is that talent alone is rarely enough because music requires serious investment.

It is said that the piano is the fundamental instrument of jazz; however, it is also evident that as jazz music evolved the significance of other musical instruments became noticeable and the musicians who played those instruments became very influential, thus highlighting the popularity of those instruments while reshaping the music. One such instrument is the saxophone. It is played by some of the leading figures in jazz and those who play the instrument are called saxophonists.
