The ‘Wake-Up Rise Up 4 Peace’ concert held annually worldwide seeks to avail musicians from across the globe, the opportunity to promote world peace and anti-gun violence through a variety of music performances and concerts.
Melody M is the first Gambian artist to partake in this global initiative dedicated to promoting world peace through the universal language of –music - peace.
His song “Peace-No to Gun Violence” was recognised by the initiators of the Wake-Up Rise Up Live 4 Peace and was then nominated to represent The Gambia by hosting a local concert which will be broadcast on the United Nations channel on September 21st 2024 to mark the International Day of Peace.
Backed by 5- star band, the concert was graced by Ebrima Jawo, Executive Coordinator of Banjul, Abdoulie Njai, National Assembly Member, Hassoum Ceesay, the Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture, (NCAC), the Chief Scout Commissioner and other officials of the Banjul City Council (BCC).
“Gambia is the Smiling Coast of Africa and being nominated to represent this country to advocate for world peace, is so overwhelming and I want to thank all Gambians, who supported the concert.” he added.
The Gambian star expressed optimism that with the much-needed support and time, he has all it takes to promote the country’s music on an international scale.
“It is my first time going international and it was really appreciated. We have talent in this country and people need to come together and support the industry.”
He hailed his partners CEO of Wake Up, Rise Up, UN Agencies, the U.S Embassy, Africell, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and all institutions and individuals, who contributed to the success of the event.
With a growing fan base in the country, Melody M also plays cultural music, reggae music and a blend of jollof beats and reggae-mbalax. He has worked to solidify his presence in the country’s music these past years. With this new development, it appears the rising Gambian artiste is on the path to international recognition.
