The Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital (BMCH) in the Kanifing Municipality, over the weekend held its Second Performance Review convergence.

The convergence which was held at the Bakadaji Hotel, marks a significant moment for the BMCH staff.

Officials said the performance review was a formal assessment of the employees’ work performance with the desire of effectively identifying their strengths and weaknesses, offering constructive feedback and setting goals for the future by exchanging ideas, fostering relationships and celebrating achievements.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Stephanie Awa Mendy, a Junior Registrar at the BMCH’s department of Obstetrics and Gynecology spoke at length on the importance of the retreat, saying: “The forum objectives include to evaluate our goals and identify deficiencies and challenges in order for us to improve on those deficiencies by recalibrating and repositioning ourselves with a view to attaining the organization's goals.”

The retreat, she went on, will also avail them the opportunity to provide data especially to those at the policy level who are also the decision makers, adding: “It will also help those at the helm of the institution with a view to be able to allocate the much-needed human and material resources, identify training needs and to celebrate their hospital successes.”

Dr. Mamadi Cham, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital described their maiden performance review as ‘successful’, saying: “Due to the success of the first year’s retreat, the staff and management of the hospital have performed extremely well in the year under review. Their positive contributions have brought massive changes at the hospital and have greatly improved service delivery at the institution.”

Clara Saine Mendy, also spoke on the importance of retreat, adding that it will give them the opportunity to holistically review last year's performance with a view to coming out with good recommendations that are geared towards the betterment of the institution.

Mrs Mendy, who was speaking on behalf of the hospital’s board chairperson, said: “We are looking forward to replicating BMCH’s initiative to other institutions. Again, we will not only stop at replicating the BMCH success story to other health facilities across the country, we will ensure government departments and institutions adapt to it.”

This kind of performance review, she continued, will also ensure accountability and judicious use of hospital resources.

“I want you to continue on this positive way with a view to enable those that you serve receive quality health service delivery”
