Coalition 2026 is set to hold a Grand Unity Rally on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Brikama SSP Grounds, where it will officially launch the NUP/UNITE Alliance ahead of the December 5 presidential election. According to a statement issued by the Coalition 2026 Secretariat, the rally is expected to mark a significant milestone in efforts to bring the participating political forces together under a common platform as the country approaches the presidential polls.

CDS Gomez: Our only tribe is GAF’ as he warns against tribalism

The newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Major General Ousman Gomez, has issued a stern warning against tribalism, stressing that the military will uphold zero tolerance for ethnic divisions. Addressing troops on Monday, 31st August 2026, at the 2nd Infantry Battalion Njongon Military Post in the North Bank Region, CDS Gomez emphasised that officers must maintain the highest standards to ensure unity and discipline within the ranks.

NAWEC launches crackdown on widespread electricity theft

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has raised alarm over the scale of electricity theft in The Gambia, warning that illegal connections and meter bypasses are draining a significant portion of the power supplied to the national grid.   According to NAWEC’s Public Relations Officer, Buba Badjie, an estimated 30 to 40 percent of electricity entering the grid goes unpaid for due to theft. This means the utility collects revenue for only about 60 to 70 percent of the power it distributes.

The Government of The Gambia says it has started simplifying procedures and rolling out digital measures to make national ID cards, passports and other immigration documents faster and more accessible. Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery, Pateh Jah, disclosed this Friday during the Mansa Kunda ministerial interface at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre.

The Coalition for Hope, Accountability, National-renewal, Good-governance, and Equity (CHANGE) has announced that its member parties have adopted a draft agreement in principle, marking a significant step toward the formation of a grand opposition coalition.   The agreement, reached after nineteen months of negotiations, remains subject to the finalisation of discussions on the coalition’s flagbearer, expected by Sunday, 6 September 2026.
