The event, held at Janjanbureh, Central River Region, is part of the NGO’s activities to better empower local communities on critical issues revolving around human rights, community development and other relevant issues affecting local communities.
Welcoming the gathering, Sainey Mbaye, deputy governor of CRR, commended Tostan for involving development partners in their programs and encouraged them to continue this wonderful partnership with stakeholders.
The representative of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Janjangbureh Area Council, Edrissa Manneh, acknowledged the remarkably contribution of the NGO in creating awareness especially on issue relating to human rights and community development in rural communities.
He thus urged the participants to always collaborate with Tostan and support their activities in their various wards and districts.
For her part, Aja Kumba Dansira, Lady Councillor Janjangbureh ward, thanked the NGO for empowering women in the region, noting that their programs are very helpful to people in local communities.
Bakary B Kora, National Assembly Member for Upper Fulladu West and the deputy chairman of Janjangbureh Area Council, expressed similar sentiments.
In his remarks, Edrissa Keita, National Coordinator Tostan, expressed delight in organizing the event, which he said, is part of series of engagements that the NGO is spearheading in the region.
The seminar, he added, also targets Technical Advisory Committee members (TAC), religious leaders, youth leaders and Ward Councilors among a host of others.
“The discussion will focus on human rights, community development and other relevant issues. I therefore, urged participants to take the programme seriously and ask questions to clear all their doubts regarding Tostan.”
Keita also took the gathering through a power point presentation on Tostan community on the overview of the project, its empowerment programme, strategies and state on the implementation of their programmes in CRR.
Edrissa Janko, human resource officer of TONSTAN, also made a presentation on the country’s Women Amendment Act 2015.
The event was attended by women representatives at the Council both in CRR North and South as well as district youth chairpersons of the eleven districts of CRR.
