The ceremony held in Mansakonko Lower River region, was funded by UNFPA and designed to share, learn and discuss among stakeholders
The event attracted more than one hundred and fifty (150) participants from partners in Central River and Upper River Regions and beyond.
Tostan-The Gambia within its framework programme implementation with partners secured funding from UNFPA through Child Fund, the Gambia and African Women Development (AWDF) to conduct series of engagements with relevant stakeholders across CRR and URR on issues related to Gender-Based Violence and other harmful practices affecting women and children.
The forum also seeks to share best practice and engage meaningful discussions among stakeholders on approaches and strategies to boost Community engagements.
At the event, Edrissa Keita, National Coordinator for Tostan outlined the gains made by NGO in implementing its national programs, commending community leaders for their cooperation in activities to encourage participation in National development.
Omar Jatto Jammeh, National Assembly Member for Janjangbureh acknowledged Tostan’s outreach complementing government’s efforts in national development across all sectors, further commending the NGO for delivering a life changing initiative.
Also speaking, Alieu Bah, member for Jarra West, pointed out the NGO’s efforts in advancing national development initiative especially tackling community development.
Chairman Mansakonko Area Council, Landing B. Sanneh lauded Tostan for the confidence and trust bestowed in rural communities, saying the NGO is helping women to vie for leadership positions at community levels.
