The training, which was held at the Centenary House in Westfield, focused on fire extinguisher use and safety practices with the desire of preventing workplace hazards.
Abdou Ceesay, the CEO of FOHSMN, who is a certified Health and Safety Officer with a background in Civil Engineering, emphasised the need for both public and private sectors to prioritise health and safety training for their employees.
He called on government institutions and private companies to equip their staff with essential health and safety knowledge, particularly focusing on fire prevention and fire extinguisher operation, adding: “It’s also important that Gambians practice fire safety precautions in their homes in order to prevent accidents and fire outbreaks.”
FOHSMN, he said, also offers consultancy services, focusing on health and safety policies. He urged the participants to take up the training with seriousness, while calling on them to also share their knowledge and demonstrate fire extinguisher use to their colleagues for a safer workplace.
Seeli Gadesseh, a participant during the training spoke at length on the significance of the training, saying: “It’s also important for companies in the country to equip their offices with fire extinguishers and ensure that employees know how to use them for their own safety.”
Gadesseh also stressed the importance of families learning fire safety and taking precautions with the desire of protecting themselves, their loved ones, and their property in case of emergencies.
