The Lot 2 development comprises key academic and administrative structures, including the Faculty of Law, the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and a seven-story Chancery building, which will serve as the central administrative hub of the university.
Commending the quality of work so far, Minister Gomez urged contractors to intensify their efforts and ensure that the project is completed within the set timeframe. He emphasised the project’s national significance, calling on construction teams to introduce day and night shifts to meet the crucial December deadline.
“The inauguration of these facilities will be presided over by His Excellency President Adama Barrow,” Professor Gomez said, adding that the timeline is non-negotiable and so the project must meet the highest standards of quality and finish.
He further underscored the importance of completing auxiliary works such as the perimeter fence and landscaping, which are integral to the overall readiness of the site.
Once inaugurated, the Faraba Banta Campus will mark a transformational milestone in The Gambia’s higher education landscape. By early next year, all UTG schools and central administration units currently based in and around Kanifing are expected to relocate to the new campus, establishing a unified and modern academic hub for the nation.
The minister’s inspection visit underscores MoHERST’s commitment to ensuring that the UTG Faraba Banta project not only meets its deadline but also stands as a symbol of academic excellence and national pride.
