Numuyel Cluster holds 3rd teachers' convergence

The event attracted more than 100 participants, including teachers, head teachers, itinerant teachers, Cluster Monitors, education officers, School Management Committee (SMC) members, and representatives from partner institutions such as the Gambisara Health Centre, The Gambia Teachers' Union Cooperative Credit Union (GTUCCU), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and the Upper River Region Gender Focal Person.

Held under the theme, "Honouring the Architects of Tomorrow," the event recognised the invaluable contributions of teachers to national development while providing a platform for learning, networking, and strengthening professionalism within the education sector.

The official opening ceremony was attended by education authorities and other distinguished guests, who commended teachers for their unwavering dedication and reaffirmed the importance of investing in quality education as a foundation for sustainable national development.

Throughout the convergence, participants attended a series of presentations and interactive discussions facilitated by experienced professionals.

The sessions covered a wide range of important topics, including the role of teachers in national development, health challenges affecting the education sector, gender-based violence in the workplace, human rights and labour rights, GTUCCU products and services, and the Service Rule Book and policies governing the teaching profession.

Beyond the professional sessions, the Teachers' Gala fostered unity, teamwork, and healthy interaction through a variety of sporting and recreational activities, including football, volleyball, tug of war, and other minor games. These activities strengthened the spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among educators from the fourteen grant-aided schools within the Numuyel Cluster.

Participants described the convergence as both educational and inspiring, noting that it enhanced professional knowledge, encouraged collaboration, and reinforced their shared commitment to delivering quality education for the benefit of learners and the nation.

In his closing remarks, Cluster Monitor Muhammed Saidy commended the organising committee, partner institutions, and all participants for contributing to the success of the three-day convergence.

He encouraged teachers to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the event in their respective schools and reaffirmed the cluster's commitment to promoting professionalism, collaboration, and excellence in education.

He also expressed optimism that future editions of the Teachers' Gala would continue to strengthen the teaching profession and improve learning outcomes across the Numuyel Cluster.
