These health posts would provide first aid, manage childbirth complications, and arrange referrals, among other services.
“These projects are all social, especially health facilities. People travel a long distance to access health facilities. That is why we decided to build health posts in remote areas, so that women can access health facilities easily and it can also help with their welfare,” President Barrow told journalists shortly after inaugurating the Buduck Health Post.
On the accessibility of the health post in Buduck, Barrow said Nianija was considered the poorest district in the Gambia, because it was not accessible. Citing the road he inaugurated barely an hour before the Buduck health posts would make it easy to access the health post, as it connects Njau, Buduck and its surrounding communities.
President Barrow said it has been 52 years since the Gambian people have been connected due to what he described as “very bad roads in the country.” He said that thanks to his government Nianija can be easily accessed.
“So basically all these health facilities and roads are social projects, social projects that will definitely go a long way in addressing some of the people's challenges,” President Barrow said.
When asked how he feels about the successful completion of the health posts and roads, the Gambian Leader expressed delight and said he is very happy with the development in the country.
“Well, I am very happy, because I have seen the end of the project. We are able to deliver the project to the people. The community is happy and we are happy,” President Barrow said.
Aside from the inauguration of the two health posts in Ballangharr and Buduck in the Central River Region, President Barrow also donated five ambulances to communities in the North Bank Region, and the Central River Region to boost access to health facilities.
These communities include Fass Njaga Choi, and Kerr Mama both in NBR. The President also donated ambulances to Ballangharr Jaloto, Njau, and Buduck in the CRR.
Reacting to the inauguration of the two health posts, Dr. Ahmad Lamin Samateh, the Minister of Health announced that there are four more health posts that the President would inaugurate as he continues his infrastructure tour.
“The government of President Adama wants to make health care services accessible to everybody in the country,” he said.
