GPF Female Network conducts step-down training for officers in Banjul

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) Female Network recently conducted a training session for 24 officers from the Police Headquarters and the Banjul Region. This session centered on critical issues, including laws addressing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Child Marriage, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

The session was designed to empower participants with essential knowledge and skills regarding Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and Child Marriage.

In the recent training session, Commissioner Amie Nyassi, Chairperson of the Female Network highlighted the crucial role police officers play in enforcing laws against harmful practices. She stressed the necessity of continuous training to enhance their skills and enforcement strategies.

Commissioner Ansumana Kinteh emphasised the necessity of expanding participation in training programs, highlighting the crucial role of solidarity among officers in protecting national security. He urged all officers to embody principles of fairness and inclusivity, thereby strengthening the GPF’s reform agenda aimed at establishing lasting peace and security.

The training employed a game-based learning strategy to actively involve participants in comprehending the legal frameworks surrounding FGM, Child Marriage, and SGBV, creating an engaging and meaningful educational experience.
