Member States elected The Gambia to lead the Bureau of the Conference from 2026 to 2028.
The Gambia succeeded Nigeria as chairman of AUSC.
Guinea was elected as vice chairman of AUSC, while Cabo Verde was elected Rapporteur.
The newly constituted Bureau will be responsible to steer the affairs of the Conference of Ministers and would provide leadership on regional cooperation and coordination in the field of sport for the two-year mandate.
AUSC Region 2 conference brought together fifteen member states, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
The election of Bakary Y. Badjie as chairman of AUSC is a significant recognition of The Gambia's growing contribution to sports development and regional cooperation.
Meanwhile, member States reaffirmed their commitment to work with AUSC.
Region 2 countries are set to promote the development of sport, strengthen institutional cooperation and shared regional priorities.
