During this course of training, Chinese Agricultural experts are expected to share planting experience and skills with Gambian farmers.
The initiative attracted delegates from the Chinese Embassy, government officials and a cross-section of farmers in the country.
The programme is expected to provide systematic training to these participants, covering vegetable breeding, seed production, cultivation techniques, and greenhouse equipment, while sharing China’s experience in the development of its vegetable industry.
At the opening ceremony, Tong Zhan, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia, highlighted China’s commitment to the principle of “teach a man to fish.”
Counsellor Tong noted that China continues to support capacity-building programs aimed at helping enhance The Gambia’s agricultural technologies.
Alagie Nyangado, permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture commended China’s longstanding support to The Gambia’s agriculture sector, especially its sustained input in capacity building.
PS Nyangado challenged trainees to make full use of the opportunity and be ready to apply what they learn and turn the training outcomes into concrete contributions to the country’s agricultural development.
