ChildFund hands over Library Books to Ndemban LBS

In a move designed to strengthen and promote the culture of reading in the country’s education system, Child Fund The Gambia recently donated library materials and tables to Ndemban Lower Basic School in the West Coast Region.

The items which includes reading books, chairs and tables, are meant to complement government’s efforts in the provision of quality and conducive learning environment.

Childfund has long been and supported government’s initiative in ensuring free  education for all the children in The Gambia.

At the handling over ceremony, Momodou Manjang, Regional Director Region 2 East acknowledged that Child Fund had contributed immensely to the country’s educational sector and that student could even attest to his assertion.

Manjang pointed out that promoting education could be done in various ways and that's one of the motives, why Child Fund decided to help schools by equipping school libraries.

The support, he added, is meant to ensure free and quality education to all the children in the Gambia.

Manjang therefore urged school administration to establish rules and regulations guiding the operations of library classes, saying this will also help them to account of books to avoid scenario where students would take books without returning them.

"Books are not for the current students only; however, even those yet to come would want to use those books."

Receiving the items, Haddy Senghore Headmistress of Ndemban LBS, acknowledged the remarkable contribution the donation would have in promoting quality education at the school. 

She revealed that there used to be books at the school library, however, they were insufficient chairs and tables for students to enable them read comfortably.

She also explained a scenario where some of the learning books were ate by termites.

"We often conduct study classes for student particularly those on examinations. However, insufficient text books remain a challenge but if Child Fund could help in providing text books it would contribute to students getting good grades."

Presenting the items, Nfamara Dabo, Child Fund Country Director reminded that a country’s future becomes promising when educational sector is good.

"Besides, Child Fund has been in The Gambia for nearly forty years and has made gigantic strides in transforming the socio-economic wellbeing of students and families in the Gambia by providing them with timely and cost-effective financial aid."

He revealed that Child Fund The Gambia has assisted five places in the country in furnishing their libraries with books aimed at boosting the educational sector in the country.
