The breakthrough was announced by the Senegalo‑Gambian Permanent Secretariat, which confirmed that “in accordance with the high instructions of Their Excellencies the Heads of State of the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of The Gambia, who have given priority to dialogue, consultation and the spirit of fraternity, a final agreement has been reached on the clear and mutually agreed delimitation of the border between the two countries.”
According to the Secretariat, joint activities for the reaffirmation and densification of the southern border will resume on 15 August 2026, covering the section from Touba Tranquil‑Dar Salam to Saré Yoro Guèye‑Jahanka.
The Secretariat extended its appreciation to Mr Alieu Njie, Chairman of the National Border Commission of The Gambia, and Major General Cheikh M. L. B. Camara, Chairman of the National Border Management Commission of Senegal, for their remarkable efforts in securing the agreement.
The deal is being hailed as a decisive step in easing tensions and reinforcing the spirit of fraternity between the two nations. Observers say it demonstrates the commitment of both governments to dialogue and peaceful resolution, strengthening regional stability and cooperation.
