Out of the total bags of rice distributed, 52 bags of rice was presented to 50 sponsored-pupils at Jambangjelly School; Forty-one (41) bags of rice was donated to 48 sponsored-pupils from St. Therese Lower Basic School, while 55 bags of rice was presented to 85 sponsored-students from Senior Secondary and Upper Basic Schools within Kanifing Municipality.
At the distribution exercise held at Jambangjelly and Nyodema Nursery School in Kotu respectively, Patrick De Vos, chairman of the Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG), expressed disappointment with students’ failure to send their school academic reports to their sponsors in Belgium.
“If your sponsors in Belgium are fighting to get something for you, you should also try for them to know or see your academic performance in school because these items we are giving to you, is not coming from me (Patrick) alone. We have good friends in Belgium who are contributing to change your lives”.
The Belgian philanthropists reminded parents that their children’s education lies in their hands, further advising students to take their education seriously in view of the fact that it is education that can determine their future careers.
For his part, Buba Jammeh, head teacher of Jambangjelly Nursery School, commended the Belgian donors through the organization’s chairman, Patrick De Vos for their continued assistance to his school for the past years.
Jammeh hailed the sponsors for what he called ‘the concern’ they have for the future leaders of The Gambia, further challenging students to take their education seriously.
Lamin Darboe, a senior teacher at Nyodema Nursery school on behalf of the parents, apologised to the sponsors for not receiving the academic report of their sponsored-students.
“Let me express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the donors for their annual donation and I want to assure you that the items you donated will be put into better use.”
