Press release

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Barra Migration Management and Border Patrol Units, has intercepted 46 would-be migrants during a joint operation conducted on 1 August 2026 at Demboโ€™s Lodge in SitaNunku, Nuimi.

The operation was launched following credible intelligence received and was carried out in collaboration with personnel from the Njongon Military Post, with support from the COP 2 Project.

The intercepted group comprises 38 Gambians, 5 Senegalese, 2 Malians, and 1 Ivorian, all male, including 8 minors.

The individuals were taken to the Barra Migration Management Office for profiling and will subsequently be transferred to the Tanji Migration Management Unit for further processing and investigation.

The Gambia Immigration Department remains steadfast in its commitment to combating irregular migration through active intelligence-led operations and stronger inter-agency collaboration.
