The award was in recognition of his outstanding service to policing in West Africa from 2021 - 2022.
Commissioner of Police on International Affairs, Lamin L.K. Bojang, deputised for IGP Sanyang at the event held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
Security Watch Africa is a sub-regional group that strives to bridge security information gaps on the continent as well as to ensure that Africans are on cutting-edge in contemporary security issues and solutions, as security and safety are everybody’s business.
The group also seeks to create security awareness and consciousness through its conferences and awards.
IGP Abdoulie Sanyang, who is a Barrister at Law, graduated from the University of The Gambia (UTG) with a Bachelor of Law degree (LLB). He was called to the Bar in 2018.
A native of Jeffin in the Lower River Region, IGP Sanyang prior to his appointment as police chief, held the deputy Inspector General of Police portfolio as well as assistant Inspector General of Police; Commissioner Administration; Officer-in-Charge of Peace Support Department; Personal Assistant to IGP; Public Relations and Press Officer; a scribe to Crime Management Coordinator and Station Officer.
He also served as team leader for UN Regional Advisory Team in an international peacekeeping mission with the United Nations in Sierra Leone from 2007-2008, as well as protocol officer to the Force Commander in 2004-2005 in Ivory Coast and as DDR and MIO in Sierra Leone.
Among his academic qualifications are Advance Diploma in Education in both English and French, Diploma in Linguistic Studies and Diploma in Law.
IGP Sanyang has also served with a number of professional bodies such as Taskforce Secretary for Gambia Police Force Promotion Board, training officer-UN/AU Pre-Deployment Training, liaison officer for Peacekeeping Operations, President of Interior Football Club, amongst others.
