Speaking to journalists at the event, Fatou Jange-Senghore, vice chair, Alliance Franco Gambia Board said the day is celebrated on 5th March each year. She added that The Gambia is not a member of the francophone organisation but an observer that shares opportunities and cultural exchanges with other francophone countries.
She pointed out the collaboration between The Gambia and francophone film industry, cinema, among other areas are very important.
She said these collaborations offer opportunities for people to learn new languages, culture and other social activities that promote unity and peace.
She highlighted the importance of being able to speak different languages, adding that The Gambia’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has put up mechanisms in place to ensure French is taught in schools in the country.
Babucarr Jange, a representative of SBEC International School said French as a language is very important for Gambian people to learn and know.
