Recent engagements were held in Jarrol and Kankurang in Foni, West Coast Region (WCR), and in Essau and Berending, North Bank Region (NBR). The sessions brought together men, women, youth, and persons with disabilities to deliberate on key civic and electoral issues, including the importance of credible elections, adherence to electoral codes of conduct, civic rights and responsibilities, and the role of political tolerance in sustaining peace.
Speaking in Jarrol, BoiyeSambou, Alkalo of the community, underscored the importance of unity, love, and peaceful coexistence. He reminded residents that mutual support during funerals and social events should extend to political life, urging respect and accommodation across party lines. Sambou expressed gratitude to the NCCE for bringing the message of peace and unity directly to the people.
In Berending, retired civil servant Modou Njie encouraged citizens to attend political rallies to better understand candidates and their programmes. He stressed the need to respect every citizenโs right to support the political party of their choice, noting that tolerance is essential for democracy to flourish.
The NCCE continues to call on Gambians to participate peacefully in the electoral process, respect differing views, reject intolerance, and work collectively to strengthen democracy, peace, and national unity.
