The event also witnessed the replacement of three old wheelchairs with new ones for three members of NODO.
Access Bank thus becomes the first financial institution to respond to NODO’s appeal for help before the enactment of the bill for Persons With Disabilities by the National Assembly.
The gesture proved the bank’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable and giving priority to them during bank transactions without queuing.
Stephen Abban, Access Bank, Gambia Limited Managing Director said the bank as part of its corporate social responsibility has set aside funds to embark on major corporate social responsibility projects.
He assured the NODO leadership that the gesture would not be the end as it is set for continuity.
He assured NODO of their continued partnership. “I will do more of this to improve your lives as you have improved the society,” he told NODO members.
Lamin Manneh, President of NODO thanked Access Bank for their gesture. He also thanked Hot FM radio for giving them free air time in advocating for the rights of Persons With Disabilities in The Gambia.
Mr. Manneh noted that the wheelchairs will enhance mobility for their members.
He said a wheelchair would cost them at least D8, 000, which he said is a big challenge to his members.
“I believe disability is not inability because we have a big role to play in the socio-economic development of the country,” he stated.
He said they wrote to many banks in the country but Access Bank was the first to respond. He called on other partners to support his organisation’s initiatives.
