The National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) has taken its democracy campaign to communities in Upper Nuimi District, equipping residents with knowledge on civic rights, voter education, and human rights.

The outreach, organized by the Upper Nuimi District Youth Committee and supported by ActionAid The Gambia under the YPI Project, targeted residents of Prince, Sami Kuta, and Saarie Marie.

Sessions focused on civic responsibilities, active citizenship, peaceful participation in democratic processes, and voter awareness.

Mohammed Kanuteh, NCCE Regional Programme Officer for NBR/LRR, served as the resource person. He engaged participants on the importance of knowing their rights and playing active roles in nation-building.

A major focus was placed on the electoral process as outlined in the Electoral Act 2025, with young people encouraged to take the lead in promoting informed decision-making.

In a statement, the NCCE commended the Upper Nuimi District Youth Committee for the initiative and acknowledged the continued support of partners and community stakeholders.

The Council stressed that such grassroots engagements are crucial to building an informed, responsible, and active citizenry — the foundation of a peaceful and democratic Gambia.
