In their mission to empower communities through livelihoods and resilience, Caritas-Gambia is intensifying efforts to reduce polarization and promote inclusive and peaceful participation ahead of Gambia's 2026 elections. With funding from Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Gambia is implementing a Harmony Outreach Peace and Engagement (HOPE) Project on Social Cohesion by organizing a 3 days training that aims to underscore the importance of peace and social cohesion while equipping local leaders and community members with practical skills in mediation, dialogue, and early conflict detection.

Sheikh Alhagie Essa Foday Darboe has been re-elected as President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) for a second five-year term, following the Council’s Sixth National Congress held at its headquarters. Delegates from across the country unanimously endorsed Sheikh Darboe’s leadership, reaffirming his role at the helm of the nation’s highest Islamic body. In his acceptance remarks, Sheikh Darboe reminded members that leadership is a trust and not a permanent entitlement, emphasizing the Council’s constitutional requirement for renewal every five years.
