The day, according to official, embodies the meaning of loyalty and belonging to the homeland and as well reflects the will of the Qatari people and their solidarity to build a modern and stable state under the banner of its wise leadership.
Welcoming the gathering, H.E. Muhammed Bin Ali Al Kuwari, ambassador of the State of Qatar to The Gambia, reminded that the national day is celebrated on the 18th of December every year to commemorate the founding of the State of Qatar by the founder Sheikh Jassim Bin Muhammed bin Thani - May God have mercy on him, who establishes the principles of justice and unity and founded the modern State of Qatar on strong and solid values based on the approach wisdom, moderation and independence.
The State of Qatar, he went on, is distinguished by a unique approach that combines the authenticity and modernity, preserving the national identity and openness to the world.
"Under the leadership of his Highness Shekh Tamin bin Hamman Al Thani, Emir of the country, it has built a society based on the principles of justice, human dignity, solidarity and tolerance. This has made the State of Qatar a model to be emulated in peaceful coexistence, adding that the State of Qatar pays great attention to the human development, considering human element to be cornerstone of development and the axis of its renaissance."
Therefore, ambassador disclosed that the State has invested heavily in education, health and scientific innovation to build a knowledge-based society capable of facing future challenges.
"The State also seeks to empower citizens and residents on its land, promote human rights and equality among all members of society. It adopts policies aimed at building a society based on solidarity cooperation, providing equal opportunities for all, especially women, who have become an active partner in decision-making and development."
On the economic front, the Qatari diplomat maintained that Qatar has taken steps to diversify its investment sources away from complete dependence on oil and gas. It has invested in various investment sectors, making it an important economic hub in the region, attracting many international companies.
"Qatar also seeks to achieve a balance economic development and environmental conservation, by adopting sustainable energy solutions and protecting natural resources, which enhances its position as a responsible country that seeks to achieve sustainable development in line with global environmental challenges."
For his part, Momodou Tangara, minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the President, His Excellency Adama Barrow, the Government and the people of The Gambia, extends warmest congratulations to the Government and the People of the State of Qatar on this significant day of celebration.
"Qatar National Day commemorates the rise of the State of Qatar under the leadership of the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, and it serves as a reminder of the country’s resilience, unity, and progress. It is a day of immense pride for the people of the State of Qatar, and as friends and partners, we stand with you in marking this momentous occasion."
FM Tangara commented about the relations between the State of Qatar and The Gambia, which he said, has been one of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
"Over the years, our two nations have enjoyed a strong bond, built on shared values and aspirations for peace, prosperity, and development."
This enduring relationship, he went on, has been exemplified through cooperation in various sectors and led to the signings of Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in areas including but not limited to trade, education, culture, tourism, transport, youth and sports and development assistance.
"We are particularly grateful for Qatar’s generous support in the realization of the successful hosting of the OIC Heads of State Summit in Banjul in May of this year, and to the development of The Gambia in general."
Minister Tangara also acknowledged that the support that Qatar has extended through various projects and initiatives has made tangible impact on our nation’s development agenda.
"The State of Qatar’s contributions have not only strengthened our infrastructure but have also fostered human capital development, which is essential for the sustainable growth of our society."
In the field of international peace, Minister Tangara disclosed that the State of Qatar’s commitment to international peace and security, as well as its efforts in humanitarian support and global diplomacy, serve as an inspiration for all of us.
"The leadership of Qatar has shown a strong dedication to fostering dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration on the international stage. This is reflected in its active involvement in regional and global initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability and sustainable development."
The event was graced by speaker of the National Assembly, Fabakary T. Jatta, Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, cabinet ministers, Diplomatic and Consular Corps, UN agencies and invited dignitaries.
