He made this vital call on Wednesday 18 December 2024 at a rally convened in Bwiam, Foni Kansala in West Coast Region, during the ongoing nationwide tour embarked on by his party.
Leading the tour since 7 December 2024, Lawyer Darboe has continuously held various rallies across regions where he has been discussing significant issues of national interest with his party supporters.
Darboe also applauded the people of Foni for declaring their allegiance to his party, while he canvassed them to massively vote for the UDP in the 2026 presidential race.
Meanwhile, the 2024 tour was aimed at engaging and reassuring Gambians about the glorious destiny of The Gambia and the firm commitment of the UDP to consider the challenges of the people and to collectively salvage the country from its “hardship and cost of living crisis”.
It would be recalled that the Fonis, where he held his latest meetings, was a stronghold of the Jammeh government.
The tour has also witnessed dramatic presentations of defectors to the UDP wherein residents of various communities in the Foni District showed allegiance to the UDP leader.
Speaking at the rally, Darboe re-echoed to the people of Foni that Gambians are interrelated, adding that nothing should separate them.
“The Gambia will never move forward if we get into tribalism, and I can tell you for real that Gambia, without the Jolas or Fulas, Mandinkas, Sarrahulis and all other tribes, is not Gambia,” he said. “So we cannot achieve national goals single-handedly without the involvement of other tribes, because the nation belongs to all of us. Therefore, we have to come together as one people to develop our nation.”
Darboe also rejected rumours that the “UDP would stage a revenge” if the party happens to take over the reins of governance, saying The Gambia should be a nation of tolerance where people should exercise love and embrace unity.
Meanwhile, the rally continues to other communities after Somita, Mayork, Sinteh and Bonto in the Fonis, which witnessed various presentations of groups of defectors to the UDP.
