The co-publisher of The Point newspaper, Pap Saine, has reiterated his gratitude and commendation for the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting a highly successful 35th Edition of Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Mr Saine, a veteran journalist who serves as the Chairperson of the Newspaper Publishers Association of The Gambia (NEPA), also expressed his gratitude for the Morocco National Association of Media and Publishers, which invited him to the recently held 35th Edition of AFCON.
"I would like to thank the Moroccans for their hospitality and for helping African sports journalists to cover the event,” Mr Saine told the media, calling on other countries to emulate the sterling example of Morocco and its national media association.
“Countries who will host Africa Cup of Nations should have their governments follow the example of Morocco to help journalists cover the great continental sports tournament,” the doyen of Gambian journalism said.
Mr Saine, a highly respected veteran Gambian journalist with a career spanning over five decades, was honoured at the 2nd AIPS/Africa Awards in Morocco with the "Journalist on the Podium" award, which recognizes veteran journalists who have covered at least ten AFCON tournaments.
"I received an international award at the Second Edition of the African Sports Journalists Congress held to honour distinguished journalists who have covered Africa Cup of Nations more than 10 times. I therefore thank the AIPS and CAF for giving me such a prestigious award, which has boosted my career,” he appreciates, commending Morocco for the well-organised event serving as an icing on the cake of the highly successful AFCON hosted by the Moroccan government and people.
The Moroccan Football Federation previously recognised Pap Saine in 1988 for his expertise in a quiz competition on African football.
Morocco, he highlights, is a “nice country which attracts many tourists” around the world.
