His Excellency Ambassador Michael arrived in The Gambia on Friday, 21st August 2026 to begin preliminary groundwork for the mission’s operations.
The opening of the embassy marks the first resident Russian diplomatic mission in the country and is expected to strengthen collaboration across trade, education, security, and other areas of mutual interest.
In a statement, officials said the establishment of the embassy reflects “a new development in diplomatic relations” between the two countries.
“The establishment of the embassy is expected to strengthen diplomatic engagement and cooperation between The Gambia and the Russian Federation across various areas of mutual interest,” the statement read.
Further details on the embassy’s official operations, including the commencement of consular services such as visa processing and citizen support, are expected to be communicated as preparations progress.
The move comes as The Gambia continues to expand its diplomatic footprint and diversify international partnerships beyond traditional allies.
