A complaint against Ousmane Sonko was filed on Wednesday with the Registry of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Dakar High Court, where it was registered under No. 12562, according to Seneweb.
The complaint was filed by the Collective of the Grandsons of Serigne Touba following statements allegedly made by the former Prime Minister and president of the PASTEF party during the inauguration of the party’s headquarters last weekend. Ousmane Sonko is reported to have said that “dirty money has entered the holy city of Touba”.
In their complaint, Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso, acting on behalf of the organisation, stated that these remarks seriously undermine the honor, reputation, and image of Touba, as well as the dignity of its residents.
They emphasised that the religious city, founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, is built on the values of faith, integrity, hard work, and justice.
The collective argues that Sonko’s statement discredits the holy city and creates a general suspicion regarding its moral and spiritual integrity.
They have asked the Public Prosecutor to open an investigation to determine the basis, scope, and any potential criminal implications of these remarks.
The complainants specifically requested that Mr Sonko be questioned so that he can clarify the meaning of his statements and provide any evidence supporting them. They also requested that all necessary investigations be carried out to determine whether the allegations are well-founded.
Finally, the collective asked that, if the facts warrant it, legal proceedings be initiated for any applicable offences, including defamation, spreading false information, or any other offence provided for under the applicable laws.
