PW1 testifies in alleged theft case

One Kadijatou Jallow on 3rd October 2010 testified as the first prosecution witness (PW1) in an alleged theft case involving Cherno Jawneh, before Magistrate Lamin George of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

Kadijatou Jallow told the court that she lives at Sinchu Baliya, and is a businesswoman.

She recalled the 9th of October 2010, when the accused person and one boy joined a vehicle she boarded.

She said upon reaching a junction in Serrekunda, she alighted from the vehicle and the accused and the said boy also got out of the vehicle and followed her.

Ms Jallow revealed that the accused person called her name, then snatched her bag which was containing an amount of D30,000 and a mobile phone valued at D830.

"At that moment, I could not talk, and I was assisted by someone at Churchill's Town who took me home," she added.

The witness narrated that she recovered from her shock by the time she reached home.

Later, she told the court, she saw the accused person at the Brikama car park, but could not remember the date.

According to the witness, she managed to get hold of the two, but the other boy subsequently escaped. 

She adduced that a crowed came to her aid, and the accused was taken to the police station, where he denied stealing her properties.

Ms Jallow informed the court that she made a statement to that effect.

The case was adjourned till 10th October 2010.
