The National Sports Council (NSC), through the Ministry of Youths and Sports (MoYS), on Tuesday gave D10,000 to the Gambia Tennis Association (GTA) which recently returned to the country after participating in the Africa Cup of Nations Tennis Championship held in Libya.

Abdul Aziz Titawo Mendy, executive secretary of the NSC, said the Gambia Tennis Association traveled to Libya for the Africa Cup of Nation Tennis Championship.

Titao added that three players were selected to represent The Gambia in the championship and the Libya Tennis Federation waived 70% of the cost of return tickets for the association, and the NSC through the Ministry of Youth and Sports also supported them with D10,000.

Mendy said that recently they also supported Farafenni in the North Bank Region with footballs and goal nets amounting to D7,000 as well as giving the 2010 Brufut Marathon Run D5,000.

“We are supporting the association with the little we have and hope to do more when we have the necessary support from organisations and companies,” he said.
