The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) yesterday hosted a mission from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to review preparations for Phase One of the Gambia Electricity Transmission Strengthening and Regional Interconnection Project (GET-RIP).
The high-level meeting, held at NAWEC’s headquarters in Kanifing, brought together senior officials from both institutions to deliberate on the project’s scope, technical requirements, financing needs, and environmental and social safeguards.
NAWEC Managing Director Gallo Saidy reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring the successful preparation and implementation of the initiative. He emphasised the project’s strategic importance in advancing The Gambia’s energy development goals and strengthening the country’s electricity transmission network.
Discussions also highlighted climate resilience measures and institutional arrangements necessary for effective project delivery.
Once implemented, GET-RIP Phase One is expected to significantly enhance The Gambia’s electricity transmission capacity and improve regional power connectivity, contributing to reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure for the nation.
