The much-awaited final will be an all-Banjul derby between league champions Real de Banjul and FA Cup champions Banjul United, and has been described by many football enthusiasts in the country as a crunch tie.
Real de Banjul clinched the country’s premier league title after an astonishing performance in the championship to grab their 12th national division one league title.
Banjul United won the FA Cup for the first time following their 1-0 win over Hawks in the all-Banjul derby of the West African Lotto-sponsored FA Cup final. It was played at the Independence Stadium, courtesy of Pa Omar Babou’s brilliant strike in the 87th minute of the game to snatch their first-ever FA Cup title.
The country’s premier league season will get under way on 20 December 2014, according to the newly-revised calendar released by the GFF last week, for the smooth running of Gambian football.
