needy Gambians during the trying moments of the pandemic.
“We
are doing this with the hope to see all Gambians happy and in good health,
which is part of our motto of operation,” he said.
Essa
Faal, a member of the Gambia National Fundraisers for Covid-19 thanked Mr.
Mukesh Thakwani, general manager of Steel Gambia Ltd. for the gesture, saying
it will go a long way in helping the beneficiaries.
“We
are doing this for no other purpose than to respond to the call of the
president and the government for all Gambians to come together and help one
another in this great time of need.”
He
added: “If we are to survive this disease, we will have to comply with the very
simple instructions of the government to observe social distancing and to say
at home for non-essential work.”
Mr.
Faal said the government cannot do it all alone in spite of their best efforts
and endeavours, adding that it is the responsibility of businesses and citizens
to help one another in this great time of need.
According
to him, so far they have provided much-needy food assistance to 1,423 families,
noting that with the generous donation, they will hit the milestone and target
of approximately 2000 families.
“Our
fundraising has been quite successful and we hope that from what we already
received we will be able to help another 2000 Gambian families,” he said.
