The National GSM operator, Gamcel, yesterday donated three new computers and a printer to Bakau Upper Basic School at a presentation held at the GSM company’s headquarters in Kanifing.

Speaking at the ceremony, Manyima Cham, Gamcel manager of marketing communications, expressed delight in receiving the beneficiary school head and her team at Gamcel.

She said the gesture was part of their contribution to the development of the school and its children.

“The children had to be computer literate to advance their technological skills,” she said.

Madam Cham underscored the importance of education, noting that Gamcel cares for the welfare of children, adding that it is better to have good foundation to excel in future.

She further urged the beneficiary to show the children the skills to develop in future, saying computer literacy is very vital.

“Gamcel contributes in many ways towards education,” she said, adding that they pay students school fees, and give scholarship among other gifts.

She emphasised that Gamcel as a national GSM operator contributes to education at all levels, while assuring the school of more support in future.

Commenting on the gesture, the school principal, Anta Sanneh, expressed delight for being privileged to benefit from the donation.

“It is apparent that Gamcel is doing their best in helping the needy,” she said, noting that this has been demonstrated by their various corporate social responsibility interventions.

She further commended Gamcel, describing the gifts as “timely and a nice gesture” while further assuring of making good use of it.

Speaking earlier, Lamin Fofana of Gamcel said they consider education importance, which is one of the ways they contribute to the public.
