The construction of The Gambia’s second new Green Ferry has yet to begin as the government awaits a decision from the African Development Bank (AfDB) on a grant application submitted to support the project.

The government’s position was disclosed during a question and answer session at the National Assembly, where a parliamentarian asked when the second new Green Ferry was expected to arrive in the country.

In response, the government explained that the ferry was expected to be delivered within 16 months from the commencement of construction.

The response indicated that the construction period had not yet started, as the government was still awaiting the bank’s decision on its grant application before moving forward with the process.

A parliamentarian, seeking clarification on the status of the project, asked whether the construction had yet to begin.

The response confirmed that the government was still waiting for the AfDB’s decision.

The delay in commencing construction means that the delivery timeline will depend on when the funding process is completed and construction begins.

The second Green Ferry is expected to support ferry services in the country, making the project an important part of efforts to improve transport connections for people and goods.

However, no specific date for the commencement of construction or the ferry’s arrival was provided during the exchange.

The government is expected to proceed with the next stage of the project following the AfDB’s decision on the grant application.
