The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has named a total of 31 home-based players, who have since nine days ago started an intensive training porgramme as they are set for a friendly international match away in Rabat, Morocco, on October 8, Pointsport can confirm.
The team comprises players in the domestic league, and is due to leave the shores of the country on October 6, three days before they are scheduled to play their Moroccan counterparts in the invitational match.
The home-based stars have now entered two weeks of a preparatory programme ahead of the proposed friendly encounter.
The team is training under the directives of the Belgian tactician, Paul Put, who is mandated to steer the affairs of the squad, but will not travel to Morocco as the game is to coincide with a qualifier match, also slated for October 8 in Banjul, between the Scorpions and Burkina Faso in the qualifying rounds of the Africa Nations Cup finals.
Paul Put is assisted by three other local coaches namely, Essa Sambou, who guided Brikama United to their first ever GFA league title, Lamin Sarr and Lamin Sambou, who resumed national team assignment, after being sidelined for some time.
The friendly match, Pointsport has gathered, is made possible thanks to a request by the Moroccan football association.
The list of the 31-man home-based players of the U-23 team include: Goalkeepers: Alhaji Nyabally, Bubacarr Sanyang. Center Backs: Buba Sanneh, Adama Sabally and Emmanueal Gomez: Left backs, Dodou Susso, Omar Colley and Alieu Jatta: Right backs, Abdou Njie, Lamin Gibba, Saikou Jawneh and Abdoulie Jallow: Midfielders, Matarr Nyan, Baboucarr Savage, Pa sulayman Badjie, Baboucarr Jammeh, Lamin Saho, Sulayman Marr, Mamut Saine, Saloum Faal, Lamin Sarjo Samateh, Domingo Manneh, Bully Drammeh, Mustapha Jatta, Ali Sowe, Daddy Mansa Colley and the strikers are: Sam Gibba, Assan Ceesay, Modou Sarr, Foday Trawally and Alasana Camara.
