The ongoing nationwide tour of the National Organising Committee (NOC) of the upcoming National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) 2022 continue as the country’s bi-annual youth convergence edges closer.
The delegation paid a courtesy on the office of the Regional Governor of the Lower River Region, Mansakonko Area Council Chairman, and Janjanbureh Governor Office where the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Janjanbureh Area Council was present together with the Kuntaur Area Council Vice Chairperson.
The young people of the two regions ably led by Ousman Sanneh and Ebrima Sanyang both Youth Chairpersons expressed their readiness to taking part in the Convergence.
Mam Lissa Camara, the Female Representative at the National Youth Council urged the regions to be gender sensitive when sending delegates to the NAYCONF.
She said the safety of the female participants is her concern and that was the more reason a gender committee is established.
Landing Sanneh the Chairman of Mansakonko and Kebba Darboe Deputy Governor of the Lower River region expressed their willingness and readiness to participate in both financial and moral support to their participants during the NAYCONF.
Mr. Sanneh said LRR is collecting all trophies this time.
In Janjanbureh authorities expressed similar sentiment like that of Lower River Region
"We are committed to the development and empowerment of youth and sports and we will work closely with all of you to address the challenges you are facing," the authorities said.
Deputy Executive Director at the NYC, Pa Malick Ceesay and Director of programs and policy Mr. Sutee Jawo assured the regions of the NOC's willingness to work closely with all the Local Organizing Committees.
NAYCONF is the biggest youth gathering in The Gambia and this year convergence is slated for December 15th to 23th, 2022 in Banjul.
The theme for this year is, “The Role of Young People in the Maintenance of Peace and Security for Socio-Economic Development of the Country; Challenges and Opportunities”.
Meanwhile, the Regional Authorities of the West Coast Region of the Gambia expressed their commitment to supporting their regional delegate to participate in NAYCONF 2022.
"My office is ready and committed to supporting the young people of WCR to fully participate in the upcoming NAYCONF," said Modou Jonga, Chief Executive Officer, of Brikama Area Council (BAC).
He was speaking during his meeting with the National Organising Committee (NOC) of, the National Youth Conference and Festivals (NAYCONF).
The NOC was on a nationwide tour to meet with regional authorities to discuss the level of preparedness and seek support for the regional delegates to one of the biggest youth gatherings in the country.
The governor of the region, Ousman Bojang highlighted the importance of youth participating in national development, saying they are the cream of the society.
Ousman Fatty, chairperson of, the National Youth Council stressed that investment in youth development is a right.
"Nothing is possible without the involvement of young people, so to me investing in them is a right," he expressed.
