Mr Jallow noted that the vehicle will significantly enhance NaLOA’s operational capacity, particularly in reaching livestock owners across the country. “We frequently embark on countrywide tours to engage with our members, discuss their concerns, and assess the challenges they face. However, mobility has always been a major constraint. With this vehicle, we will now be able to reach our members more efficiently and in a timely manner,” he stated.
He emphasised that the donation is a clear demonstration of President Barrow’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of livestock owners and the broader agricultural sector. “This gesture reflects the President’s understanding of the vital role livestock farmers play in national development. It also shows his dedication to empowering rural communities and strengthening food security,” Jallow added.
NaLOA, which plays a critical role in areas such as animal production, security, market access, commercialisation, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation, has welcomed the President’s support. According to Jallow, the donation will go a long way in boosting the association’s outreach and service delivery.
“We are also actively involved in conflict resolution between livestock owners and crop farmers, especially in areas where disputes arise — such as the tragic incident that occurred in Dongoroba. Having reliable transport will enable us to respond more swiftly and mediate effectively,” he explained.
In addition to the vehicle, Jallow praised the government for its broader support to livestock owners, including the provision of boreholes to ensure cattle have access to clean drinking water. He also commended the administration for involving livestock stakeholders in national development initiatives, recognising their contribution to the country’s economy and food systems.
He concluded by calling on all members of NaLOA to make the best use of the resources provided and to continue working in partnership with government to promote peace, productivity, and sustainability in the livestock sector.
