The financial support was formally handed over on Thursday, 27 August 2026, during a ceremony presided over by Basse Area Council Chairman, Hon. Mahamadou Ceesay. The funds were presented to Sutukonding Ward Councillor, Hon. MawdoSisawo, to support the remaining works required to complete the health facility.
The intervention is expected to ease the burden on residents who currently travel long distances to access essential medical services, while bringing basic healthcare closer to communities within the ward.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Ceesay said the Councilโs decision reflects its commitment to ensuring that essential services are brought closer to the people. He highlighted ongoing institutional reforms at the Council, emphasising accountability, financial responsibility, and sustainable development.
Councillor Sisawo welcomed the allocation, describing the completion of the clinic as an urgent priority for the ward. He expressed appreciation to the Area Council for responding to residentsโ concerns and urged that development initiatives continue to focus on improving the welfare of citizens.
For women in the community, the intervention is particularly significant. Sutukonding women leader Bato Jawneh described the funding as timely, noting that women currently travel long distances to access weekly immunisation services for their children. She said completing the facility would ease the challenges faced by women and families while improving access to basic medical care within the community.
