The four-day activity exposed participants to crucial information on voting and peaceful participation in elections. Throughout the session, the campaign engaged participants to frank dialogue, as well as creating platform to clear any doubts regarding election, while also boosting their confidence among community members.
Further, NCCE's message to all electorates is - ‘Turn out, vote peacefully, and respect differing views. Reject violence and misinformation.’
Addressing the gathering, Ansumana Yabou, programme officer at the National Council for Civic Education, reiterated that over the four days, NCCE engaged women, youth, persons with disabilities, community elders, opinion leaders, and political party supporters, providing vital information on the importance of voting, the voting process, and the need for peaceful and responsible participation in elections.
Mr. Yabou indicated that the campaign created open spaces for dialogue, while allowing participants to ask questions, share concerns, and gain clarity on their doubts, rights and responsibilities as voters.
According to him, community members from Bantanjang ward in Foni Bodali constituency consistently expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the sessions strengthened their confidence, corrected misconceptions, and motivated them to actively participate in the upcoming polls.
As the by-elections draw close, NCCE programme officer urged all eligible citizens of Bantanjang ward to turn out and vote peacefully, respect differing views, reject violence and misinformation, and play their part in strengthening democracy at the local level.
Some of the participants who spoke this medium, expressed appreciation for the initiative and commended NCCE for the initiative.
Kebba Jallow, Alkalo of Bisara Madi, described the initiative as timely, acknowledging that the initiative was aimed at sensitising citizens on their rights particularly voter education, which he said, is necessary and highly valued.
The initiative, he added, would help in strengthening informed participation and sustain the country’s democratic culture.
