In a significant move geared towards maintaining cleanliness along the coastal road market,  Humanitarian Foundation Action The Gambia, recently embarked on a massive cleaning exercise commonly known as “Set-settal” at the market.

The initiative, officials said, is meant to ensure inhabitants of the area and including market vendors dwell and operate in a decent environment.

Established some years ago, Humanitarian Action the Gambia Foundation is a nonprofit organization aimed at serving humanity in different communities within the country.

The exercise by the foundation witnessed the cleaning of waste disposable within the market and its surroundings.

Abdoulie Ceesay, founder of the association, dilated on the importance of cleanliness, especially during the rainy season.

Ceesay reaffirmed his association’s continued commitment to responding to the needs of Gambians,  promising they would continue to embark on such kinds of initiatives with the objective of ensuring communities, public places in the country are clean.

The foundation, he went on, is an organization that’s committed to serving humanity irrespective of the different geographical locations.

He urged the market women and vendors to stop littering the market environment, saying: “When the market is dirty, vendors find it difficult to comfortably sell in the area. In fact, when the place is dirty, it can also pose a threat to our health.”

The situation of the coastal road market, he claimed, was in a “terrible condition”, saying: “As human beings, we can’t live in such a condition. Therefore, we deem it of paramount importance to clean the entire market in order to ensure that market vendors and those selling in the market can comfortably go about their daily businesses.”

While thanking the Brikama Area Council (BAC) for their collaboration during the cleaning exercise, Ceesay said: “Anyone found throwing a waste dump at the market will be sued in court.”

Concluding, he thanked the market vendors and the police for joining them during the cleaning exercise.
