The meeting, held recently on Fitzgerald Street in Banjul, drew a diverse audience of community members, youth groups, and local stakeholders. It provided a platform for Njai to brief constituents on his legislative work while listening directly to their concerns and suggestions.
Njai described the forum as a cornerstone of his approach to representation. “As a representative, engagement is key. Before taking issues to the Assembly, we must first consult the people,” he said, stressing that the town hall also helps dispel misinformation and encourages open discussion on matters affecting the constituency.
One of the flagship initiatives unveiled was the Solar Lumina Project, which will install solar-powered lights in poorly lit areas of Banjul. Njai explained that the project aims to improve visibility and safety, while deterring theft, illegal dumping, and other activities often linked to dark spaces.
Sports development featured prominently, with football, basketball, and volleyball teams receiving kits and equipment. Njai said the support was designed to ease the financial burden on youth teams and encourage wider participation in sporting activities.
The MP also outlined a package of interventions to support families and young people, including: Back-to-school assistance for vulnerable households, Skills development programme, Scholarships for students, Job placement support for youth within the constituency, and Civic Engagement and Accountability.
During the interactive session, residents raised concerns and offered recommendations, which Njai pledged to take into account in his advocacy and policy priorities at the National Assembly. He also announced plans to strengthen civic education, helping residents better understand the roles and responsibilities of elected officials.
The Bantaba concluded with calls for continued engagement, with constituents welcoming the initiative as a step towards closer communication between leadership and the community.
