The Director General of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), Ebrima Mboob, together with his Core Command, received at the GID Headquarters in Banjul, Mr. Elias Navarro, the Counsellor General of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Spain, accompanied by representatives of the Spanish National Police.
The high-level strategic visit aimed to strengthen the longstanding partnership between The GID and the Kingdom of Spain, with discussions centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation in migration management, border security, and the fight against transnational organised crime.
In his welcoming remarks, Director General Ebrima Mboob expressed appreciation to the Kingdom of Spain for its support to the GID over the years. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in responding to evolving migration trends and emerging transnational security threats.
DG Mboob further highlighted the significant achievements recorded under the first phase of the Common Operational Partnership (COP I) project, describing the initiative as a landmark intervention that has strengthened the Department's operational capacity.
Speaking on behalf of the Kingdom of Spain, the Counsellor General, Elias Navarro, thanked the Director General and his leadership for the warm reception accorded to his delegation. He commended the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the Gambia Immigration Department in the execution of its mandate and echoed Spain's continued commitment to supporting the Department in achieving its strategic priorities.
Mr. Navarro further highlighted the significance of the second phase of the Common Operational Partnership (COP II) project currently being implemented, noting that it would further enhance operational cooperation, institutional capacity, and joint interventions in migration management.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening the existing partnership while exploring additional areas of cooperation aimed at enhancing border governance, promoting safe and orderly migration, and collectively addressing emerging regional and global security challenges.
