The Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) has received a timely boost to its service delivery capacity following a donation of essential medical materials by the Hagie Gai Drammeh Foundation for the Physically Challenged, hospital authorities have said.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Kebba Sanneh, described the donation as a significant intervention that will enhance the quality of care provided at the country’s main referral hospital, particularly in the wake of the recent tragic fire incident.

This donation will greatly enhance the quality of service that we strive to deliver at this hospital, Mr. Sanneh said. I always say that donating to EFSTH is donating to the entire nation. All critical cases that cannot be managed elsewhere are referred here, which means this hospital serves every Gambian.

Mr. Sanneh made these remarks on Monday, January 19, 2026, during the presentation of the donated items at the hospital grounds. The donation included mattresses, wheelchairs and other essential materials aimed at improving patient care and mobility within the facility.

Speaking on behalf of hospital management, the PRO commended the Hagie Gai Drammeh Foundation for what he described as a timely and compassionate gesture, noting that the donated items would go a long way in addressing critical operational needs.

Healthcare delivery is expensive, and institutions like ours cannot function effectively without adequate materials, he said, adding that this was not the first time the Foundation had supported the health sector. He recalled a similar donation previously made to the Ndemban Clinic.

Mr. Sanneh further urged other institutions, organisations, and philanthropists to emulate the example set by the Hagie Gai Drammeh Foundation by prioritising healthcare in their corporate social responsibility efforts.

The ceremony brought together members of EFSTH management and representatives of the Foundation, marking what observers described as a strong demonstration of meaningful corporate social responsibility and solidarity with the country’s health sector.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Mr. Hagie Gai Drammeh, said the donation was made possible through the support of the Foundation’s Canadian partners, Mrs. Patty and Rjistree, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting healthcare and vulnerable communities in The Gambia.

This donation is intended to offer solace and support to the nation’s main hospital and to those still grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy, Mr. Drammeh said. It is a reminder that compassion, unity, and collective responsibility can make a profound difference, especially in difficult times.
