The event, which marked a significant milestone, was designed to inspire and inform young people about diverse career prospects in the tourism and travel industry. The event also accorded officials the opportunity to showcase the country’s vast tourism potential and GT Board’s role in sector development.
In an interview with journalists, Ebrima AK. Sanyang, Senior Research and Development Officer at The Gambia Tourism Board, described the event as a significant moment in giving students insights about their career pathway in tourism.
“We are trying to prepare them in the future on the opportunities available in the tourism sector and we can advise them on what are their career aspects that they can find in the tourism industry,” he said.
Edrissa Gibba, Head of YMCA School, said the event was long overdue in view of the rapidly changing hospital landscape, noting that students of the school have an agenda to realise at the end of their training to open with diverse businesses.
“The tourism career day is very key, because, in fact most of these students don’t know what kind of opportunities is available for them,” he said.
The event, he added, is the first time to have such open and frank discussion with the GT Board, further appealing to the GT Board for a continued partnership to further guide future students of the school for a better and standard life.
