A blazing inferno last Friday engulfed Brikama Sandika just at the entrance of the Brikama Car Park. The inferno destroyed an unquantified number of goods worth millions of dalasis, though there was no reported injuries or fatalities.

Also, the blazing fire, which began around 4am, has not only handicapped regular flow of businesses at the site, but has left many out of business especially those who lost all their goods and equipment to the unfortunate incident.

In addition, the Sandika, which attracts people from all over the Kombos and even beyond, is a popular spot where people trade in all types of goods and services.

According to Lamin Kanteh, a victim, he received a phone call from one of his customers, informing him of the fire incident at the Sandika.

He however, revealed that before he could manage to find his way out to the store, fire had already engulfed all his goods.

"I lost almost D400, 000 in this fire incident but I believe National Water and Electricity Company (NaWEC) is responsible for the fire outbreak due to their inconsistency of frequent power fluctuation in Brikama."

Sainabou Sarr, secretary of the Sandika Union in Brikama explained that nearly 300 people sell at the Sandika and more than 60 machines were destroyed in the incident and each machine could cost nearly D50, 000

"Millions of dalasis worth damages were lost in this fire incident".

In a show of sympathy, Yankuba Darboe, chairman of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) assured the victims that they will launch an investigating into the cause of the fire.

"We cannot establish the actual cause of the fire as investigation will soon commence, but when we know the cause, we will ensure that such does not happen again."

BAC Chaiman equally assured the vendors of rebuilding the said Sandika market and promised to relocate them to veterinary for the continuation of their normal businesses.

Sulayman Jammeh, National Assembly Member for Bundung, while expressing dismay with the unfortunate incident, equally called on the Council, government and philanthropists, to support the victims as they go through these difficult times.
