DLEAG arrest 5 suspects for trafficking, possession of prohibited drugs

Operatives of the country’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG) have arrested five individuals for trafficking and being in possession of prohibited drugs, The Point has been reliably informed.

The suspects who were arrested in diverse places in the country, are currently under the custody of the narcotic agency as investigation into the matter continues.

The spokesperson of the agency, Ousman Saidybah, who was contacted for comments confirmed the development, saying: “One Ansumana Tamba, 38, and a resident of Lamin Village was arrested by Farafenni DLEAG station at Conteh Kunda Nigi village in NBR on the 23 July 2024 with 157 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa.”

The suspected cannabis, he went on, was concealed in cement papers and put inside a white and green bag and then it was transported with a commercial vehicle with the registration number BJL 4483M.

Saidybah added: “20 years old Ebrima Sanyang a resident of Brufut was also arrested by Barra DLEAG station with two big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in cement paper, green nylon bag and black school bag respectively.”

“One Ebrima Jallow, a resident of Brikama was also arrested by the Brikama DLEAG station at Durmakolong on the 23 of July with 63 wraps of suspected Kush which was concealed in white paper, rizla packet and medicine sachet respectively.”

The DLEAG PRO said: “Cherno Jallow a resident of Old Jeshwang was equally arrested by the Tallinding DLEAG station on the 23 of July with 12 wraps of suspected kush which he concealed in white papers and medical sachet respectively.”

Concluding, he said: “18 years old Ebrima Jallow a resident of Old Jeshwang and a mechanic by profession, was arrested by Tallinding DLEAG station with 11 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in white papers and transparent nylon bag respectively.”
