Civic Bantaba, a prominent community development organisation, has officially launched the Constitution 101 Awareness Caravan, a pioneering initiative designed to promote constitutional literacy among students in tertiary and higher institutions across The Gambia including both conventional and Arabic schools.

The programme aims to equip students with a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens, enabling them to critically engage with social and political issues and actively contribute to shaping the country’s democratic future.

Lamin Manneh, the Executive Director of the Organisation, said: “Constitutional literacy is widely recognised as a cornerstone of democratic participation. By familiarising students with the Gambian Constitution, its history, principles, and practical implications, Civic Bantaba hopes to foster a more informed, engaged, and responsible citizenry.”

“This initiative has the potential to shape the future of The Gambia,” Manneh said, adding: “We are empowering students to become leaders and change-makers, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive positive change.”

The Constitution 101 Awareness Caravan, he added, will be conducted twice monthly, targeting a broad spectrum of educational institutions including public and private universities, colleges, vocational centres, Arabic schools, and Islamic institutions.

Key highlights of the programme, Manneh added, will be promoting constitutional literacy and civic awareness, empowering students to participate meaningfully in democratic processes, and fostering national unity and good governance through informed dialogue.

“Through initiatives like this, Civic Bantaba continues to demonstrate its commitment to youth empowerment, civic education, and national development. By bridging the gap between legal knowledge and civic responsibility, the organisation is laying the groundwork for a generation of informed citizens who can contribute constructively to The Gambia’s progress.”

Concluding, he said: “This is more than an educational campaign, it’s a movement for civic transformation.”
